Voila !done with fitting! Sometimes I really hate fitting. Fitting process means a metal is cut into half using handsaw. LOL. Yes,
This is what has been done by me and my lab partner. :)
Here is my report on Fitting Process
OBJECTIVE: To learn how to cut piece of metal plate and smoothening the edges of rough metal..
EQUIPMENTS:
Handsaw ; a cutting tools
Vernier caliper : To measure the dimensional of the work piece. The vernier caliper has been calibrated to such small scale that it can give precise measurements.
Cutting tools : To machine metal in a lathe, a cutting tool called a tool bit is used. In order to cut the various shapes desired, specially shaped tool bits are used.
Wire brush: For cleaning purposes
Safety glass:To protect the eyes from the metal of workpiece because they are often deflected upwards.
Apron: Aprons provide protection.
PROCEDURE:
1. Piece of metal plate is provided
2. A metal piece is measured using vernier calipers and its dimension is recoreded.
3. Then, a metal plate is marked using height gauge using dimension provided.
4. The metal was cut into half using handsaw and clamp.
5. After that, the metal is cut using the handsaw using 25 mm width and 25 mm height
6. The workpiece is now in L shaped metal plate and it can be pieced together to make it look like one whole piece.
7. The metal plate is file using various of file to remove excess metal and smooth the rough surfaces.
Safety precaution
In fitting process must be constantly aware of the safety hazards that are associated with using the the handsaw and must know all safety precautions to avoid accidents and injuries. Carelessness and ignorance are two great menaces to personal safety. Some important safety precautions to follow when using lathes are:
- Rings and watches must remove and use a correct dress is important.
- Handle sharp cutters, and centers with care.
- Always wear protective eye protection.
- Chips and swarf is removed by pliers or a brush, never by hand.
- Keep tools overhang as short as possible
DISCUSSION
1. The metal plate should not be cut where the line was drawn, some space should be provided so that it can be file.
2. A perfect cut should not be obtained due to multiple errors
Conclusion
The objective of this lab session is achieved which to learn how to cut piece of metal and smoothening the edges of metal piece using proper file. Fitting is an important process in manufacturing process. Proper techniques are requires to get the best results
